Copy/Line Editing
1.0–3.0¢ per word
You’ll receive a marked and annotated copy of your manuscript and a short editorial report (up to three pages). This type of editing focuses on mechanics and style.
When I edit your manuscript, I will be looking for/at:
- Clarity, consistency, and redundancy
- Descriptions of setting and character
- Point of view and tense
- Showing vs telling
- Spelling, grammar, and format
- Style and flow
- Syntax, word choice, and effectiveness of language
- Other components, as necessary
The Editorial Report will cover issues such as structure, narrative, plot, and character development, among other things. It will offer support for what is working well and constructive suggestions on aspects that require attention.
Proofreading
0.25–1.0¢ per word
You’ll receive a marked and annotated copy of your manuscript highlighting errors (grammar, spelling, typos, formatting, and punctuation). This edit will look less at the “big picture” and will simply proof for errors in the text. It is generally one of the finals checks before publication.
